St. John recently premiered its Fall 2008 fashion collection to an approving crowd of 300 in a first-class runway show at the Orange County Performing Artscenter’s Samueli Theater. With St. John co-founder Marie Gray and her daughter Kelly Gray back at the helm as creative consultants, the buzz was back. There was something for everyone, with an emphasis on architectural lines, highly saturated color and graphic animal motifs. St. John’s signature skirt suits, updated with fur or fringe-trimmed collars and cuffs in luscious colored knit tweeds, matching dress and coat tweed ensembles, and zebra and leopard animal prints in every silhouette were showcased. Perhaps the most prevalent focus was sparkle. It was everywhere, from suits and dresses to cocktail frocks and paillette-covered gowns. Opaque hosiery, boots and gloves continued to accessorize the St. John day looks. Even with thoughts of spring fashions creeping into our senses, women were checking off their fall favorites. It looks like a very successful collection for St. John. --By Donna Bunce
