Catwalk: Neiman Marcus

Ken Downing finally made it to the champagne and dessert reception in his honor. The Neiman Marcus Vice President and Fashion Director, caught in rainstorms and massive flooding in Texas, joined 80 guests at Neiman Marcus, Fashion Island, joking in his Southern drawl, “I could have gotten here on a stage coach sooner.” Jumping into his “Trends for Spring” topic, Downing said, “The message this season is color, along with global influences, painterly details and feminine touches.” He said it was fine to mix colorful fashions with bold accessories. Chunky jewelry is all the rage as well as the flat sandal, large totes and small clutches, safari influences, patio dresses, floral, geometric and abstract prints, ruffles, Grecian draped dresses and gowns, and sheer and transparent fabrics. Hint for fall fashion: Downing says, “Color will continue, especially purple and shades of berry, and canary yellow will dissolve into amber and warm umbers.” Yum! --Story By Donna Bunce and Photos By Ann Chatillon
