I'll be honest, I'm not the outdoorsy type. But don't get me wrong – I love nature, I just typically choose to enjoy it from afar... and I'm a sucker for beautiful views.
I recently had the opportunity to act on one of my rare urges to experience the wild close-up, and found myself at Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park in San Juan Capistrano. Only a short way down Ortega Highway, Caspers Wilderness Park spans a whopping 8,000 acres of pure nature. Rolling hills, vegetation and gorgeous skies as far as the eye can see. Nature was starting to grow on me.
And just in time too, since Caspers is re-launching its Adventure Day, after a long hiatus. Back by popular demand, this family-friendly day of exploration has an agenda full of fun. People of all ages are invited to come and appreciate the wildlife the park has to offer. The planned activities include music, tours, crafts, games, and wildlife exhibits. Partake in games like cowboy lasso, ring toss and potato sack races. Or come face-to-face with a mountain lion, minus the risk factor, with animal pelts and skins available for viewing.
There will also be skits, storytelling and songs, plus special guests like The Dusty Rangers, Acjachemen tribal descendant Jacque Tahuka Nunez and members of the Orange County Fire Authority, who will be showing a fire engine and instructing on proper campsite setup and safety.
So it's time to take a break from the fast-paced OC lifestyle and retreat into the wilderness.
