The 34th America’s Cup came to a stunning conclusion Wednesday, September 25, with Oracle Team USA completing the most amazing comeback in sports.

Penalized two points prior to the best of 17 races against Emirates New Zealand, Oracle was down 8-1 before winning the final nine races to take home the 134-year-old Auld Mug. The 72-foot catamarans raced on San Francisco Bay for over two weeks and achieved unheard of speeds of over 40 knots downwind and over 30 knots upwind against the tricky bay currents. Oracle’s successful defense of the cup it won three years ago in New Zealand allows it to pick the boat, the rules and the race site for the next America’s Cup race in 2017.
