I find myself constantly awestruck by the sheer magnitude of our universe. I'm a sucker for meteor showers, I love being able to spot a constellation while driving under the night sky, and I still remember my excitement during sixth-grade science camp when I got my first astronomy lesson. To me, the vast expanse of mystery, darkness and light that makes up our universe, is both mind-boggling and thrilling.

Needless to say, when I heard about an upcoming cosmic event in a local nature wonderland, I was rather intrigued. The Donna O'Neill Land Conservancy is hosting its annual Astronomy Night on Saturday, December 12, from 6-8 p.m. So, my fellow universe-wonderers: Pack up your warm clothing, flashlights, binoculars, and something comfy to sit on, and get ready for a night out with the stars – the celestial ones, of course.

Donna O'Neill volunteer stargazing experts will come equipped with their telescopes, so you can take a look at what is happening beyond our planet. You will walk away astronomically informed after learning how to spot the different constellations that are scattered about our night sky.

The cost of this stellar event is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 8 to 18 and free to members of the conservancy. For more information about Astronomy Night, visit theconservancy.org or call 949.489.9778. Pre-register by e-mailing: staff@theconservancy.org.
