The vigorously applied paint on the canvases of Ursula O’Farrell’s work isn’t just the result of an enthusiastic artist but a characteristic that defines an entire art movement. She has come to represent a third generation of painters from that San Francisco area responsible for Bay Area Figurative Painting.
She pulls abstract human forms from paint generously applied using palette knife and trowel. O’Farrell, who has taught at Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey and Cabrillo College in Aptos, describes her process as the “flowering of the dance with the paint, using intuition to guide me.”
