The Orange County Breakers defeated the Texas Wild in a World Team Tennis match at Bren Events Center on the UC Irvine campus on July 16.

Sure it was about the tennis and the fans having a great time. And yes, the young Breakers led by Steve Johnson (NCAA title holder from USC) and Orange County’s Coco Vandeweghe, played well – Johnson and Vandeweghe won their singles matches.

But if you ask the largest crowd of the year why they were there, it was because of Mike and Bob Bryan: The Bryan Brothers. The brothers currently hold the championships of all the Grand Slams this season as well as an Olympic Gold medal. No doubles team in history comes close to their over 90 titles. No other team doubles as a rock band, as well. So when Treat Huey and Johnson, of the Breakers, put away the brothers and set point in a 5-0 tiebreaker, the crowd was wildly appreciative of their victory.

Vandeweghe romped 5-1 in her singles match to complete the match. The Breakers won 23-17 and are 8-5 for the season. To follow the Orange County Breakers, go to breakerstennis.com.
