Nestled off the beaten beach paths of Newport Beach, Big Canyon is one of Orange County’s most luxurious – and little-known – neighborhoods.

“It has a wonderful community feel about it,” says Coldwell Banker realtor Georgina Jacobson. “It’s unlike any other community in the area because most of the architecture is unique.?It’s a wonderful surprise once you drive through the gate.”

A VARIETY OF STYLES

Tucked between San Joaquin Hills Road and MacArthur Boulevard, Big Canyon features everything from townhomes to custom estates and showcases various architectural styles.

“The community has traditional, contemporary and Tuscan-style homes,” says Jacobson.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FEELING

The homes enjoy sprawling lots that are both spacious and secluded. Dotting wide streets, they’re positioned amid mature landscape at multiple levels of elevation.

“The privacy is what sets this neighborhood apart from others in Orange County,” she says, “and its signature are the pine trees that give it a Northern California coastal feel.”

And for all its privacy, Big Canyon is still central to the county’s finest conveniences. The neighborhood is within walking distance of Fashion Island and advantageously close to freeway access and John Wayne Airport.

WORLD-CLASS GOLF FACILITIES

Big Canyon is also located near the exclusive Big Canyon Country Club and Golf Course. Established in 1971, this members-only club hosts special events and offers top-notch amenities and services within its 60,000-square-foot main clubhouse. The club, Jacobson says, “has world-class golf, tennis and swimming facilities.”

The golf course has hosted 16 state, regional and national championships including the 2000 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship and the 2014 USGA Men’s Senior Amateur Championship. It boasts a 3,500-square-foot chipping green, a 14,000-square-foot putting green and an expanded driving range.

“And the homes that surround the beautiful golf course offer a variety of views,” Jacobson says.

Some homes are level with the course on the 7th hole, which is a par 3, while others are elevated above the first fairway on Canyon Fairway. Still other properties enjoy city lights views.

“Some homes capture views not only of the golf course but of the nearby mountains,” says Jacobson.

Jacobson is a longtime resident of Newport Beach herself and is an expert in the areas of Newport Beach, Newport Coast, Corona del Mar, Laguna Beach and Irvine. She is accustomed to the intricacies of Orange County’s luxury home market and has facilitated transactions for custom homes in Big Canyon.

“Many people could live anywhere in the area, and they are choosing a home in Big Canyon,” she says. “Many are building their dream home.”
