Here’s something to ponder before you commit to any other Thanksgiving plans: Avalon is not a big tourist town over Thanksgiving weekend.

It’s mostly locals and a few others who seek out the quiet and ease of Catalina Island in the off season. The luxury remains at the high-end hotels, but the rates drop overall. The Hotel Metropole offers all its regular day spa amenities as well as accommodations ranging from standard guest rooms with ocean views from the balcony to its VIP suites, even its two-bedroom, two-bathroom Beach House retreat.

The Beach House also features a full kitchen, entertainment deck (with the aforementioned ocean views), fireplace, living room, large TV, Jacuzzi bath, and walk-in showers. As many as 18 of Avalon’s restaurants are open on the holiday with seven – including Avalon Grill, Antonio’s Cabaret, El Galleon, The Landing Bar & Grill, Mi Casita, Villa Portofino, and Steve’s Steakhouse featuring a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Rates at Hotel Metropole start at $159 per night and $225 on holidays. The Beach House starts at $749 per night and $859 on holidays.

‘Nuff said? If you want more info or you want to make a reservation, go to catalinachamber.com or hotel-metropole.com. And if it crossed your mind, forget about The Inn on Mt. Ada. It’s already booked. But it’s not too late to get it for next year.
