For nearly 50 years, Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) has been raising the bar in children’s medical care. But, CHOC isn’t satisfied; with its Change CHOC, Change the World campaign, the hospital demonstrated its desire to do even more by rallying the support of the hospital’s administrators, physicians and patients, as well as leaders of the local community.

The campaign hopes to raise $125 million by June 30, 2013 in order to make CHOC a “world-class pediatric institution” in three ways: by adding a new facility; by building an endowment fund to recruit top pediatric experts; and by strengthening ties with the UC Irvine School of Medicine.

A new seven-story tower, set to open on the existing CHOC campus in Orange in the spring of 2013, is at the core of this campaign. The tower will house operating rooms, an advanced pediatric emergency department and laboratory, pathology, imaging, and radiology facilities. The tower will provide cutting-edge tertiary and quaternary pediatric care as part of CHOC’s commitment to the pursuit of “innovation and discovery.”

Yet while the focus of these improvements is on helping patients, CHOC makes sure to keep families in mind. The tower will include expanded family amenities, an outdoor space and café, areas for work or study, play areas, and more. With its continuing dedication to children’s medicine, CHOC plans on showing Orange County that change can’t only be a good thing – it can be a great thing, too.
