As spring rolls in and the flowers bloom and grass gets greener, Southern California turns a little brighter. In that spirit, Irvine’s Great Park is hosting an event sure to add a lot more color to the Orange County scenery.

Scheduled for April 22, The Color Run is a 5k run that designates each kilometer with a different color: 1k is yellow, 2k is blue, 3k is green, 4k is pink, and 5k is the color extravaganza, which we can only imagine. When runners hit each kilometer, aka the Color Me Rad zones, runners will be doused with an “elf made” recipe of color dust. All products are 100% natural and safe, according to race organizers.

The 9 a.m. start is sold out, but the noon start is still taking sign-ups. Spectators are also welcome to cheer on the colorful runners and participate in the post-race Color Run party, which is sure to get messy. There will also be bands, food and a lot of fun.
