Best known as lead singer of legendary rock band The Who, Roger Daltrey performed at Pac Amp August 10 to benefit Teen Cancer America. The gig was originally scheduled for the late Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, who passed away in May. Daltrey took over the date and used it as a benefit to raise money for the Teen Cancer wing he is hoping to build in Irvine. Daltrey opened the show with “I Can See for Miles” and kept the crowd at its feet as he blew through an amazing arrangement of Who classics. Mid-show he went into a Johnny Cash medley much appreciated by his fans, closing the night with the powerful “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” The front man has also worked in the film industry, acting in films, theater and TV, and also producing films. His powerful voice and iconic screams ranked him number 61 on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 100 greatest singers of all time in 2008.
