Remember when we thought everybody would have a jetpack one day? We’d be just like the Jetsons, zooming through the sky with motors strapped on. That day hasn’t come, but we’ve got an approximation: water-powered jetpacks in Newport Beach. Operated by Jetpack America, the flight sessions can get first-time pilots up to 30 feet high. Ed Valdez, pictured, didn’t hesitate to let his feet leave the earth, to gaze from an uncommon vantage point over Newport Bay at the pink horizon before him. No surprise, though. His day jobs? Professional pilot and flight instructor.
