Huntington Beach
Known as Orange County’s “dog-friendliest beach,” Huntington Dog Beach’s sandy mile-long stretch offers plenty of space to run loose. The privately-funded beach is the only in the county where owners are allowed to give their dogs more freedom by having them off-leash. That means more care-free fun and ocean diving for Fido. The beach is located in Huntington Beach between Seapoint Avenue and 21st Street. It is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. all year round.
Corona del Mar
As a hidden gem nestled in Newport Beach, Corona del Mar provides a private feel and a scenic place for dogs and their owners. Dogs are welcome for fun on the sand from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and after 4:30 p.m. as long as they are on a leash no longer than six feet in length. The beautiful ocean views and picturesque village shops make it the perfect place for a relaxing early morning or afternoon walk. The beach is located on Ocean Boulevard and is open daily until 10 p.m.
Laguna Beach
One drive down Pacific Coast Highway is all it takes to fall for the beauty that lies within Laguna Beach. Known for its breathtaking seaside cliffs and intriguing tide pools, this sandy city is a potential place for those seeking adventure. Dogs are allowed on several public beaches, including Main Beach, Crescent Bay and Wood’s Cove. Leashed dogs are allowed on beaches before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. June 15 through September 10, and at any time of day from September 11 through June 14.
San Clemente
Though San Clemente doesn’t allow dogs on all of its beaches, it offers a different kind of experience by allowing them on San Onofre State Beach trails. Owners are able to bring their dogs on trails one and six of the beachside hiking park. This is an opportunity to explore something new, and those looking to take the adventure one step forward can plan an entire camping trip with their pet.
