The Los Angeles Kings vaporized the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, May 16, 6-2, to win round two of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Kings shredded the Ducks’ defense, raced past seemingly stationary defenders, seemed to win every face-off, and generally controlled every facet of the game. A sensational performance by Kings goalie Jonathan Quick was complemented by omnipresent defensemen all around him. Behind 2-0, Ducks star Corey Perry flubbed a penalty shot. The Kings never looked back as they ran rookie Ducks goalie John Gibson out of the game at 4-0. Jonas Hiller gave up another two goals. It was the final game for 43-year-old Ducks star Teemu Selänne, The Finnish Flash. After the game, fans roared their appreciation and both the Ducks and Kings saluted him with a stick-slapping ovation worthy of both his career and persona. The Kings move on to face the defending Stanley Cup champion, Chicago Blackhawks, for the Western Conference title.
