The older I get, the more stuff I seem to put on my face. If it’s not some kind of thick moisturizer, it’s sunscreen and/or any of a number of makeup products. And of course, what goes on, must come off.

Not all facial cleansers are up for the job. But I’ve found a few recently that not only got the gunk off but left my face feeling smooth and clean – like after a good facial.

The great thing about Vichy Laboratoires Purete Thermale One-Step Cleanser is that it acts as cleansing milk, toning lotion and eye makeup remover in one quick swipe. It removes makeup effectively, along with all other dirt and debris for a fresh, non-greasy finish. Plus, there’s no rinsing required. ($19.50 at CVS and vichyusa.com)

Sabon’s Facial Wash – available in Jojoba, Seaweed and Aloe Vera – does exactly what it says. My face literally felt squeaky clean. And despite the thorough washing, there was no sense of dryness or irritation with this gentle formula. ($11 at sabonnyc.com)

If you really want to feel like you paid a visit to your esthetician, Epicuren’s Apricot Cream Cleanser will provide you with a delicious sensory experience in the comforts of your own bathroom. The cleanser goes on thick and smelling like a plateful of apricots. It leaves the skin hydrated, clean and smelling pretty. ($24 for 2.5 oz., $34 for 4 oz. at Spa Gregorie’s/Newport Beach)
