Oh how we love pumpkin season. The leaves change color, our favorite sweaters come out of hiding and pumpkin spice lattes fill our mornings.

Fall can mean bone-chilling temperatures outside of California, but we don’t really have to think about snow tires and shovels around here – which means we can focus on more fun activities like sprucing up our homes for the season.

Here are some ideas to help bring the outside, in.

Pin a wreath of rustic-colored leaves to your door – like Crate and Barrel’s Oak Leaf Wreath – to show you’re ready for the season. Add pots of leafy plants in green, red and gold tones to your entryway and finish the look with pretty yellow mums. Mums thrive this time of year and can be picked up at your local nursery.

For the inside of your home, it’s all about subtle. Have framed photos on your wall? Try switching out those photos for fall-inspired ones.

Spruce up your sofa with new throw pillows. Aim for signature fall colors in patterns you enjoy. This works especially well if you have a soft, neutral room to start with. By adding bursts of color in hues of orange, copper and wine into your living room, you can’t help but feel festive. Nordstrom Decorative Velvet Pillows have great texture and color, or opt for a tribal pattern like Crate and Barrel’s Tasana Pillow for a bolder statement.

Fill your home with inviting autumn scents using made-for-the-season candles. Jo Malone’s limited-edition Pine & Eucalyptus Candle or Anthropologie’s Voluspa Maison Candle Tin collection are both delicious options.

A fireplace is a nice treat this time of year. Take an au naturel approach to decorating the mantle as a fresh way to introduce fall. Think worn wood, birds’ nests, birch bark candles, vintage books, and ornate mirrors. This will give it an organic, unexpected fall look. Add a log basket or modern trunk like Crate and Barrel’s Versus Galvanized Trunk and fill it with wood.

New seasons bring new opportunities for revamping your surroundings. Personalize your home to what fall means to you.
