If you were to say that going for a ride in the big orange balloon is the only thing to do at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, I might say you’re full of hot air.
The Flights & Sounds Summer Festival is in full swing at Orange County’s metropolitan park, with dance parties on Friday nights, concerts on Saturdays, and of course, balloon rides.
Show up at 7:30 p.m. on dance party nights to get a quick dance lesson before a live band gets started and things really heat up on the dance floor. Scheduled dance party bands include R & B jump blues band Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums with Miss Carmen Getit - featured in the film Be Cool - on September 3 and the swing sounds of Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys on September 10.
Crowd-pleasing acts are lined up for the Saturday night concerts, like the smooth, Jack Johnson-mentored Donavon Frankenreiter on September 18. And with The Hangar Café open from 6-10 p.m., selling snacks, hot dinners and beer and wine, and night flights in the hot air balloon available, you have everything you need to make a night of it.
