Culinary Competitions at the Fair
WEB-EXCLUSIVE: Show off your cooking skills at this year's OC Fair.

If your digestive system can't handle another year of fair food, then make your own. Orange County residents can win bragging rights (and a little cash) in several culinary competitions at this year's OC Fair, running July 16-August 15, 2010.
Registration forms can be found on the Official OC Fair Competition page at ocfair.com/competitions. Participants can enter as late as three to four days before the competition.
July 24: Art of the Tart
Bakers can submit tarts or pies that are savory, sweet (one or two crusts), sugar-free or made with a sugar substitute.
July 25: Hot! Hot! Hot! Chili, Wings & Salsa Challenge
Show off your expertise in one category or enter all three (chili, chicken wings and salsa) for a chance to sweep the entire competition.
July 31: Retro Baker Regatta
In a celebration of tradition, 1955’s Orange Cake & Lemon Pie Regatta returns as a nod to days gone by. Enter an orange cake, lemon pie, bread or rice pudding, cobbler, semi-homemade dessert, or other Old Time Recipe Desserts – just like grandma used to make.
August 1: Bacon Bac-Off
Take part in the fair’s first-ever tribute to bacon, whether it’s an appetizer, a main dish, a side, or even – for the truly dedicated – a dessert.
August 8: International Foods Festival
If you need a vacation, this contest is like a mini-tour around the world. Cook (or just eat!) your way across the globe with an appetizer, main course or dessert.
August 14: OC Cupcake Classic
Go head-to-head with other bakers and duke it out with your best cupcakes. Categories are divided into professional, amateur and youth (ages nine-18) contestants.
