After reading our story on food-based beauty brands, you might be craving a little DIY beauty care. Alexis Wolfer, founder of LA-based, beauty-, fashion- and wellness-centered TheBeautyBean.com, has just the thing with these quick at-home recipes.

Spa DIY: Make your own watermelon and honey facial mask to moisturize parched summer skin by mixing 1 tbsp. watermelon juice with 2 tbsp. raw honey and applying a thin layer to the face, neck and décolleté for 15 minutes. Watermelon helps soothe and heal while also helping to reverse the effects of sun damage. Honey, a natural humectant, brings hydration deep into the skin. Since raw honey is antibacterial, it can also help prevent infections from severe sunburns and keep breakouts away.

Daily DIY: Give yourself a lemon rubdown by simply cutting a lemon in half and rubbing it on your heels, elbows, knees, and any other extremely dry areas of skin. The citric acid will help break down the dead skin cells while the pulp and rind will manually scrub them away. Done daily, your rough patches will be a thing of the past.

DIY Makeup Remover: Extra virgin cold-pressed coconut oil will remove even the most stubborn waterproof makeup while simultaneously moisturizing and even gently exfoliating with its lauric acid. And coconut oil is antimicrobial, so it won’t clog pores or lead to breakouts on even the most reactive skin.
