Summer’s here and now’s the time to be reminded just why living in Orange County is so great. Near the top of the list: the beautiful summer nights. Here are four opportunities to treat the world as your movie theater, and another event to help you escape the daytime heat. Most of the films are geared towards families, but couldn’t we all use a little bit more innocent fun in our movies?
Free-for-All Movie Mondays at Orange County Performing Arts Center

This summer, the Orange County Performing Arts Center turns the community plaza into an outdoor theater by projecting films onto Sergstrom Hall. Films begin at dusk (around 8 p.m.). Pack a picnic along with your chair and watch five cinema classics.

Newport Dunes RV Park sets up an inflatable screen on the sand to show some great family films. The showings generally run on Fridays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket and a beach chair and settle in.

This movie series is run by the Fullerton Historic Theatre Foundation, an organization that hopes to keep The Fox Fullerton Theatre alive. Classic movies are shown in the parking lot behind the venue nine times a year. Come ready with a chair and a blanket; films start at 8:30 p.m.

Free Family Film Festival at Regal Theatres
Since 1991, Regal Cinemas has shown a selection of G- and PG-rated movies in the summer, giving families a break from expensive ticket prices and the heat. Movies begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from mid-June until August. Films include Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009), Curious George (2006) and Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009).
