There is a good chance you or someone you know will be spending too much time stuck on an airplane or in an airport this week. The holidays only exacerbate the worst things about modern air travel.
 
An extra large surge of traffic. Less experienced travelers. Bad weather. People lose the holiday spirit quickly sleeping in a terminal. So, if you’re facing a flight in the near future, here are a few things to ponder while you wait. And if you’re lucky enough to avoid traveling around now, consider this an education for next time.
 
Travel + Leisure looked at statistics for U.S. airports and came up with a list of the worst for delays. Few of these are surprises, including San Francisco International, that stole one of my Christmases back in the 1990s. But if you don’t already know, beware!
 
The second story allows us to end on a high note. They also looked at accident statistics and found that not only has air travel become incredibly safe, it continues to get safer. And in the list of the country’s safest airports, you might notice one airport is curiously on BOTH lists. If you need a hint, it’s named after a president.
