Visitors to the Honda Center in Anaheim, there to see the Anaheim Ducks open their season, were greeted by a newly expanded Grand Terrace as they entered the arena. The $20 million expansion added 15,000 square feet to the Grand Terrace.

This was the first improvement to the arena since it was opened by the city of Anaheim in 1993 and was funded privately by Henry and Susan Samueli, who own the Ducks and own Anaheim Arena Management, the firm which manages the arena for the city.

As part of the expansion, visitors are greeted by a pair of 15-by-25 foot HD screens, showing highlights of Duck games; a 220-seat, full-service restaurant operated by Wolfgang Puck; and a new team store. In addition, the upper level, open only to season ticket holders, boasts a new cocktail lounge.

Marblehead Coastal, at 248 acres the largest undeveloped waterfront site in Orange County, might finally be on its way to development. Stopped cold by the recent recession, plans for the blufftop off the San Diego Freeway (I-5) in San Clemente call for 313 homes, an outlet center and 150 acres of public-use open space.

Lehman Brothers, which now controls the site, has announced that it will begin some site improvements this fall. Included are improvements along Avenida Pico to be completed by April 2014; extension of Avenida Vista Hermosa between I-5 and Avenida Pico to be completed by mid-2014; construction of Pico Park and Sunset Park on the bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean – no time frame provided; restoration of habitat; and construction of pedestrian trails.

The outlet mall, Plaza San Clemente, will be developed by Craig Realty Group, Newport Beach. Homes will be developed by a series of homebuilders to whom Lehman Brothers will sell sites. No time frame for either the outlet center nor the homes has been provided by Lehman Brothers.
