While its famous Claes Ovation restaurant still has one of the world’s finest wine collections and stunning views, it is brightened by recent renovations. The “inspirational cuisine” is as creatively sophisticated as ever, but the menu lets guests sample more variety via “small plates” options. The Lounge and Terrace Cafe have been combined into the OceanView Bar & Grill, presenting a relaxed outdoor and indoor dining ambiance with fresh flair.
Not just for out-of-towners, Hotel Laguna is a perfect setting for weddings, meetings, and simply enjoying life – the same things that attracted the likes of Humphrey Bogart and Errol Flynn in the ‘40s attract people today. Its Rose Garden Courtyard is always in bloom, by virtue of place or horticultural skill. The private beach is one of the few in Southern California where people can get married while the Pacific laps their feet, and is the only local beach with alcoholic beverage and food service on the sand – a major reason so many nearby residents join Hotel Laguna’s exclusive Beach Club.
Georgia Andersen took on the role as president of the hotel upon the passing last year of her beloved husband, Claes Andersen. Heavy rains in December, 2010, caused damage to the hotel. Georgia is now fully involved in the exciting project of overseeing Hotel Laguna’s second major renovation since the Andersens purchased it in 1985.
This July, Georgia appointed her and Claes’ longtime friend Heinz Hofmann, an international chef and noted hospitality executive, as Hotel Laguna’s Chief Operating Officer. They join in inviting everyone to come rediscover the beautiful Hotel Laguna.
