n October 11, SOS (Share Our Selves) will hold its 18th Annual Celebrity Chef Dinner at the Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa. Tickets are $285 per person. For reservations, contact Ashley Carlton (949-515-5400, ext. 34).

Monday night football is back, and the Yard House (call 949-727-0959 for the one nearest you) is ready with its multitude of plasma screens, and its selection of half-price appetizers, house martinis, discounted beers and wines. The fanfare continues through December 22, 2008. For Yard House food-to-go and party platters, a three-hour advance notice is needed. Delivery service available on request.

According to Jon Tebault, manager of Hershey’s Market on Balboa Island (949-673-0330), the store now carries Estancia beef. These cattle are raised in Uruguay, a certified mad cow-free country, are free range and grass-fed. Their beef contains half the fat and cholesterol of standard beef, and does not contain hormones or growth-promoting antibiotics.

For presidential election night parties, SusieCakes (949-646-6881) will be baking red velvet cupcakes for John McCain (red states) and vanilla cupcakes for Barack Obama (blue states) for $4 each.

The former Cabana in Laguna Beach is now Nick’s (949-376-8595). The intimate 80-seat restaurant with the best people-watching patio, serves American fare.

The shuttered Partners Bistro in Laguna Beach has been taken over by the owners of 230 Forest Avenue and Opah restaurants.

The closed Max Ristorante in Westcliff will reopen as Liza and Tim Goodell’s 25 Degrees.

Mama Gina’s in Newport Beach has closed.

The former Robert Mondavi Food & Wine Center, most recently occupied by the Patina Group’s Park Prive, will soon emerge as the Orange County Wine & Food Center.
