Imagine living in a world where breast cancer doesn’t exist, where no one has to hear the words, “You have cancer.” This was clearly the mission at Susan G. Komen’s 2015 Pink Tie Ball held in May at Orange County’s Great Park. The sold-out celebration, themed “A Blast for the Cure,” raised more than $556,000 for the organization’s breast health programs. Guests walked a pink carpet and were greeted with a signature pink cocktail before a sunset reception.
“A woman in Orange County has a one in seven chance of developing breast cancer,” Komen Orange County Executive Director Lisa Wolter said in kicking off the program, which included honoring “Pink Tie Guys,” distinguished businessmen who advocate for breast health: Jay Harness, Humberto Huerta, John Jorgenson, Doug McKay, David Page, Mario Rodriguez and Jeff Shady.
Pink Tie Ball chairs Karen and Scott Sherman thrilled their table with a dozen pink Dunkin’ Donuts for an extra $2,000 during the live auction, where guests bid on jewels from Black, Star & Frost, marksmanship training with Navy SEALs and a ride on a Goodyear blimp.
