The Sundance Film Festival is known to welcome the most original and authentic storytellers. The festival has also launched hundreds of films that went on to gain critical recognition and reach audiences worldwide. This year, the Utah-based festival hosted its usual array of films including documentaries, shorts, etc.
But the most talked about movie by both critics and moviegoers was jOBS. The feature film is about college dropout Steve Jobs and his friend Steve Wozniak, who together unleashed the Apple 1 personal computer kit. The two men went on to hand produce and ship 200 sets to public buyers. Through this production Apple Inc. was born and today millions of people from around the world continue to buy the various products.
Of course you would assume any movie based on the late technology icon would be widespread news, but it’s not for the reason you think. Steve Jobs is played by the 34-year-old actor Ashton Kutcher. Yes, you read that correctly. The former “That ‘70s Show” star that played the dim-witted pretty boy Michael Kelso has moved on to play the role of a man who changed the way we live and communicate.
Many critics praised Kutcher’s performance, pointing out that he was able to accurately depict Jobs’ mannerisms and gestures in a natural way. While others referred to Kutcher as not the “casting disaster” some thought he would be.
