Many of the new cities incorporated in Orange County during the past few decades leased space in existing office or industrial centers for their city halls. As the cities have matured and their leases are expiring, these cities are developing city halls of their own. One such city is Lake Forest, whose leased city hall space expires in 2014.

Lake Forest is in the planning stage for a new city hall which it calls its “100-year home.” City planners, working with resident input, determined that a new city hall should reflect Lake Forest’s natural landscape and history; that it be a destination center; that it should provide new facilities for the city; and that it accommodate multiple uses.

As planned with architects LPA for a nine-acre site at Serrano Summit, the proposed city hall would provide the city with a meeting center, a senior center, an emergency operations center, and the city council chambers would be designed to act as a performing arts center.

Next steps are to draft a budget for the complex and to determine sources of funding.
