Paradisus Papagayo
The jungles and coastlines of Costa Rica are becoming famous for their eco-friendly travel, but putting the words “luxury” and “eco” together in front of a resort is daring, even for Costa Rica. Paradisus Resorts will open the five-star Paradisus Papagayo Bay in July 2013 at the Northern Province of Guanacaste, replacing the company’s previous hotel in the area. Promising views of the bay from virtually any of the 381 rooms and a design that flows gently to the beach below, the Paradisus will also feature five restaurants and five bars, spa and health club and the chain’s Royal Service and Family Concierge programs. Rates are expected to begin at $298 per person.

The Legoland Hotel
Legoland is making it easier for families to come to the park without having to arrive early or drive home with everyone cranky and exhausted. The Legoland Hotel opens in May 2013, and like the Disneyland Hotel Signature Suites, rooms will feature a big carryover of the theme park’s design, with ornately decorated Pirate-, Adventure- and Kingdom-themed rooms, and separate bunk-bed sleeping area for kids, in-room treasure hunts and LEGO gifts. Also in keeping with the kid-friendly environment, there will be LEGO interactive features all around the hotel and a LEGO-styled buffet restaurant. Don’t worry, there’s also the Skyline Bar for adults with views of San Diego. Pre-opening packages include room of choice, breakfast for up to four each morning, four two-day Resort Hopper tickets for Legoland, the waterpark or aquarium, and early admission to the park for $1,327.

Spending Día de Los Muertos in Mexico City is an experience most people who live in Southern California will never try. But you should. Growing airline InterJet offers a great temptation with their new daily non-stop from Orange County’s John Wayne Airport to Mexico City and Guadalajara beginning in mid-October. The OC route is part of an effort to connect travelers in New York City, Miami and San Antonio to 25 different locations in Mexico.
