“Strobing,” a makeup technique that strategically highlights skin with the artful placement of shimmery creams, has been the trend on runways and red carpets for the past few seasons. This summer, says Brie Leach, a makeup artist for “The Real Housewives of Orange County,” strobing is migrating from cheeks to eyelids. Sunscreen Smarts
Like the seductive rogues on “The Bachelor,” sunscreens often promise more than they can deliver. In a recent Consumer Reports study, 43 percent of the products tested fell short of the SPF claim on their labels. Fortunately, CR’s top-rated sunscreen, Anthelios 60 Melt-in Sunscreen Milk ($35.99 :: laroche-posay.us), is also one of the most elegant and fastest-absorbing formulations around. If you prefer a mineral-based sunscreen to a chemical one, dermatologist Janellen Smith of UC Irvine Heath recommends EltaMD UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 ($26 :: dermstore.com). She points out that sunscreens should be slathered on rather than applied sparingly. That means if you have a light hand with your favorite tinted SPF moisturizer, you’ll want to layer a sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 underneath.
