A sassy peek at Barbra Streisand’s basement-turned-mini mall is the premise of “Buyer & Cellar,” which featured a flawlessly performed solo shtick by Emerson Collins in the season finale at Laguna Playhouse. Collins portrayed both the mall’s sole employer and Streisand in the one-act play inspired by the songbird’s self-indulgent tome, “Barbra Streisand: My Passion for Design.” He tends to her hundreds of collectibles – housed in shopping boutiques in her Malibu basement – because, when she wants to visit, she doesn’t want to be alone, he deadpans. “She has so much stuff that if someone told me the Ark of the Covenant was behind the chaise, I wouldn’t be surprised!”

“The reaction of our subscribers to this funny and heartfelt play has been overwhelming,” playhouse Artistic Director Ann Wareham said at the post-show bash, where guests sipped bubbly and cruised a buffet of mini desserts.
