Super model, cookbook author, wife of Emmy-winning songwriter John Legend and, perhaps above all, social media’s darling, Chrissy Teigen returned to Orange County in June to launch Coach’s PreFall 2016 collection at South Coast Plaza. Fashion bloggers and the brand’s most loyal shoppers came out in full force to welcome Teigen, preview the latest line and support Step Up Women’s Network, a nonprofit organization that assists girls from under-resourced communities.

Coach’s look this season by creative director Stuart Vevers throws back to ’90s urban fashion. Noticeably missing are the heritage brand’s monogram prints.

Teigen, who wore a black, star-embellished dress with sheer sleeves from the Coach 1941 collection, said she is a longtime fan. “I remember the first Coach piece I ever owned and all of beautiful clutches over the years,” she told Coast. “My mom still has every Coach purse we ever bought.”

Teigen is no stranger to the OC. She attended Huntington High School, got her big break when a talent scout discovered her working at a local boutique, and spent time commuting to jobs in LA from Irvine. So it’s no surprise that she gravitated to Coach’s limited edition Disney line featuring Mickey Mouse. The collection, which launched the day after her appearance, was so popular fans slept in their cars and started queuing up at midnight in the South Coast Plaza parking lot. While Teigen has no plans of purchasing an OC vacation home, she still spends a lot of time here. “The Montage holds a special place in our hearts,” she says. “I threw my sister’s bridal shower there. John and I will stay there for long weekends. It’s our little getaway.”

While she enjoys the luxe life along the coast, Teigen admits some of her favorite spots – besides Laguna Beach, Javier’s and Crystal Cove – are in Garden Grove. As her mouthwatering Instagram account attests, this svelte mama loves to eat. “There’s such good Vietnamese food there. I just can’t get enough.”
