Let’s just get this out of the way, in case you’re wondering how we did it: It wasn’t easy, picking the 50 with clout. Across every field of endeavor, so many of the people who choose to live here are the kind of people who make things happen. Philanthropic. Artistic. Athletic. Entrepreneurial. Political. Environmental. Bold. Just plain brilliant.

So how to choose? We looked for those whose influence spiked in the past year – those who came out on top, who set trends, who became the tastemakers, whose philanthropy manifested in something big, whose acts inspired, whose ventures molded our communities – and some whose ideas, it can be said without hyberbole, are determining the future of our world.

Let us introduce you to those who are bending history even as we write this. Click through the phots and say hello to the Coast 50.
