Spring break isn’t just for college students on a road trip. You can find yourself sunning lakeside on a beautiful spring day right here in Orange County – that is, if you don’t mind some mud.

The Spring Break at the Lake Irvine Lake Mud Run is a 5k run getting dirty on Saturday, March 31 at Oak Canyon Park and including obstacle courses like jump walls, ramps, crawl tubes, and an epic mud slide. Competitors and spectators can stuff themselves with food from a variety of vendor options and check out the Beer Garden (free for registered runners), as well as the Action Sports & Eco Fair and two live bands performing throughout the day. But of course, the main attraction is the mud, of which there will be multiple pits and mounds throughout the race.

Competitors can also participate in Dirty Dodgeball, kicking off around midday. Teams will be made up of six to nine players on a dirty, volleyball-sized field.

And don’t forget to bring the kids for the Mud Puddles race, where they will finally get to play in the mud without getting yelled at.

If the mud isn’t drawing you in, consider it in the name of charity. The race will benefit the Gavin R. Stevens Foundation to research and help find a cure for LCA, Lebers Congenital Amaurosis.
