The annual Summer of Mud race is here. On June 23, head to Irvine Lake for Southern California’s most challenging and dynamic 5k mud run, taking its victims through trails, hills, luges, and muddy obstacles. The newest festivity is the Titanic Tomato Toss – sure to add a messy ingredient to the race.
Irvine Lake’s Mud Run Spring Break in March alone brought over 9,000 runners to the race grounds. The Summer of Mud event is expecting just as many runners with even more mud than before. This run will feature professionally built obstacles, including jump walls, ramps, crawl tubes, luge slides, mud pits, and a number of water-drenching experiences.
The Titanic Tomato Toss was inspired by the La Tomatina Festival in Spain. Where else would you get the opportunity to gather your friends and throw fresh and fried tomatoes at each other? Chances are, only at the Titanic Tomato Toss. Protective eyewear or goggles are recommended as the tomato juice tends to sting.
The parking lot will open at 6:30 a.m. for the first race at 8 a.m., which includes multiple waves in individual and team categories. To participate in the run, runners must be 13 years of age or older and in good health. Kids between two and 12 years of age can participate in the Mud Puddles Kids Course. After the event, over 30 showers will be available for runners to rinse off and then change into some clean clothes.
Irvine Lake Mud Run sponsors Wahoo’s Fish Taco, Popchips and the World Famous KROQ will also be onsite with the Action Sports and Eco Fair that will feature vendors with the latest sports and eco-friendly products. If participants are of age, Michelob Ultra will be featured in the Summer of Mud Beer Garden. For all participants and bystanders, entertainment and live music will be played throughout the day.
The Summer of Mud race will benefit Blind State of America, with a mission of helping visually impaired individuals develop job skills and a sense of independence to help them lead full lives.
