Grab your running shoes and get ready for some muddy fun this weekend with Spring Break at the Lake. On Saturday March 29, the creators of the Irvine Lake Mud Run are transforming Oak Canyon Park at Irvine Lake into a muddy oasis filled with obstacles that will satisfy any runner’s need for adventure.

Those who participate in this muddy 5k will experience the scenic trails of Silverado Canyon while racing through professionally built obstacles, water and on hills.

There are four race categories that participants can be a part of: timed individuals at 9 a.m., timed teams at 10 a.m., non-timed individuals at 11 a.m., or non-timed teams at 12 p.m.

People are encouraged to pre-register as slots may sell out. Registration is available online for $79. Those who register will receive a package that includes a Spring Break at the Lake T-shirt and a customized medal. They will also be able to take advantage of showers at the campsite, tents to change in, a secured bag check area, access to the beer garden, and much more.

Following the big races, kids ages 2 to 12 will have the opportunity to participate in the Mud Puddles kids race for $25.

In addition to giving runners a thrilling experience, organizers of the mud run plan to raise awareness for Leber’s congenital amaurosis, an eye disease that causes blindness, by having a group of runners in bright orange known as Gavin’s Groupies participate in the run in support of the Gavin R. Stevens Foundation.

The mud run will take place at 5305 Santiago Canyon Rd., Silverado. The parking lot will open at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the race. Those who would like more information can visit irvinelakemudrun.com.
