Mark your calendars: On September 26, more than 30 museums in Southern California are opening their doors to visitors for free. In fact, there are museums in every state that have joined Smithsonian magazine to celebrate the Fifth Annual Museum Day.

Last year, there were over 900 participating museums and this year, the magazine expects to attract more than 1,000. Since all 84 Smithsonian museums have a free admission policy all year round, others are following in their footsteps for this one important day of celebrating creativity through history.

Visiting museums like the American Museum of Ceramic Art in Pomona or the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust helps foster awareness of American heritage and culture.

You will need to present an admission card at the museum you choose to visit.
