The Pantsuit is Back!

Fall Preview, a la Neiman Marcus Michaele Hall, public relations director at Neiman Marcus, Fashion Island, shared the season’s fall trends with a room full of fashionistas, a Chapman University support group called The Fashionable Women of Chapman, at the Island Hotel Newport Beach. Hall said the season showcases a juxtaposition of masculine and feminine, i.e. “a lace blouse under a military-inspired jacket or pantsuit.” Yes, I did say pantsuit. The ‘70s influence is back and is shown with a wide leg pant, and in keeping with Hall’s prediction of masculine/feminine, is worn with a lace blouse and pearls. Other trends include the military influence with metal buttons, olive and khaki colors, epaulets, and patch pockets. Also showcased are plenty of capes, ponchos and vests, fur and fur trim (whether real or faux), lace and feathers on everything, and a “wardrobe of boots,” as Hall called it. Everything from over-the-knee, motorcycle, cowboy, flat to lace evening bootie is hot. And, just for the record, still popular are the leather motorcycle jackets from last season, chunky knits, animal prints, and the proverbial trench.
