Ted Danson is a consummate host, which was apparent last month when the actor was in OC, reprising his role as emcee of the Oceana SeaChange Summer Party. The annual fundraiser to support Oceana’s ongoing efforts to protect the world’s oceans was back in Laguna Beach at the beautiful Cahill estate after a year away, and so was the affable Danson. Like the father of the bride at a gorgeous wedding, Danson visited every table during the event, chatting with guests and posing for photos. Such celebrity charm (Danson was joined by Sam Waterston, Jeff Goldblum, Seth MacFarlane and other film industry folks) is one reason why the SeaChange Summer Party is one of the most successful events of the OC social season. Certainly the cause inspires OC’s generous support: SeaChange raised $1.3 million this year. But host Valarie Van Cleave (joined this year by co-host Britt Meyer), and Ocean Champion honorees Eve and Mike Ruffatto also help drive local passion for and participation in the event. “SeaChange would not be SeaChange without Eve and Mike,” Danson said.
