What is it with wearing black on New Year's? Black is for funerals, and while one could argue that New Year's is the death of the year gone, are you really that sad to see 2011 go? New Year's Eve is a time to celebrate all the prospects the upcoming year holds, sans the black tie. One place you can do that is at OC Fair New Year's Eve Block Party, returning for its second year and offering a fun and casual way to ring in 2012.
Party-goers can enjoy DJs, dancing and a multitude of tribute bands providing live music by the decade. Check out groups like The Who Revue and Wild Child on the '60s stage, while on the '70s stage you’ll find the likes of Elton – The Early Years and Space Oddity – David Brighton’s Tribute to David Bowie. The '80s stage will feature The Cured and Rio – A Duran Duran tribute, with The Joshua Tree – A Tribute to U2 and GreenToday on the '90s stage.
Entertainment also includes comedy group Project Dynamite and Baja Blues’ 2 Grand Dueling Pianos as well as a new casino area where you can gamble for prizes. Local food trucks, like Chomp Chomp Nation and Flying Pig Truck will roll in for hungry party-goers and there will be plenty of bars set up around the grounds for the thirsty.
Tickets are $40. Parking is $10, $20 for preferred parking. Or go for the combination package that includes admission to Block Party and a 2012 OC Fair Super Pass, all for $55 and available until December 21.
