Pico Iyer
Author

Pico Iyer is one of the most renowned living travel writers, but he says his biggest journey yet has been his adventures in going “nowhere.” At the next Register Book Club event Iyer will talk with Coast magazine Associate Editor Sam Dunn, not only to discuss insights gleaned from his many travels but also his most recent book, “The Art of Stillness, “ based on his popular TED Talk of the same title. The book chronicles Iyer’s attempts to find stillness and escape from the frantic pace of modern life. A British-born East Indian who was reared in Santa Barbara and went to boarding school in England, he has lived in Japan for 30 years. Iyer has written numerous books, including “The Lady and the Monk,” “The Open Road: The Global Journey of the Fourteenth Dalai Lama” and “The Global Soul: Jet Lag, Shopping Malls and the Search for Home.” His years of globetrotting have taught him one thing: “Movement makes the most sense when grounded in stillness.”
