What is the meaning of life? Do we really have free will? Why did I buy an iPad? Those are the limitless questions that eat at everyday philosophers and actors like Rainn Wilson.

Wilson, best known for his portrayal of Dwight Schrute on NBC’s “The Office,” wanted to give the world a way to openly explore and discuss questions like these. As a collaborative effort with friends, he created soulpancake.com in order to provide a creative space to share questions and solutions.

SoulPancake has now manifested in the form of a book, appropriately titled SoulPancake: Chew on Life’s Big Questions, for which Wilson will be at Barnes & Noble at Bella Terra in Huntington Beach on November 18, 2010 for a discussion and signing.

The book addresses questions – such as “Would you want to know the exact moment you are going to die?” and “Can men and women really be just friends?” –  through mind-stimulating activities and unique artwork.

The goal of soulpancake.com, launched in 2009, was to create a space in which people could safely explore the meaning of life and what it means to be human. SoulPancake combines art, philosophy, spirituality, science, and creativity with social networking and is a culmination of Wilson’s journey through life. He was raised in a Seattle suburb before moving to Wilmette, Illinois for his high school years so that his family could serve at the Bahá’í House of Worship. For a short time as a young actor he rejected the faith, returning to it later.

As he became a well-known actor, Wilson wanted to create something that could help people. There was no outlet for Wilson as he struggled with his beliefs, so he created SoulPancake as a place to discuss some of life’s big questions.
