The 13th annual Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo held August 24 and 25 entertained thousands of enthusiastic fans. The $200,000 prize lures the world’s top 30 contestants in bareback riding, saddle bronco riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, team calf roping, and bull riding to the riding center in San Juan Capistrano. The ultimate reward is to earn a place in the National Rodeo Finals in December in Las Vegas. The event raises money for local charities, over $100,000 this year. The rodeo opened with a dazzling display of lady horseback riding acrobats, whose stunts brought loud cheers from the audience. The family event also features a plethora of Western-themed shopping and dining opportunities as well as a live concert and dancing in the evening.
