Bayside Restaurant (949-721-1222) is exhibiting the largest, single collection of artwork of world-renowned abstract expressionist Palo Uber. On display through January 2009, Uber‘s works, influenced by artist Mark Rothko in New York City, are minimalist in subject matter and deal with controversial, social and political statements.

Bluewater Grill Seafood Restaurants in Newport Beach (949-675-3474), The District (714-258-3474) and Redondo Beach (310-318-3474), are celebrating the opening of the California spiny lobster season with special grilled lobster dinners market-priced from $20 to $24 per pound.

On November 23 at 6 p.m., restaurant owner/philanthropist of Anaheim White House (714/772-1381), Bruno Serato, kicks-off the holiday season with a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Seven tons of “snow” will surround a spectacularly decorated 20-foot fir tree, along with carolers and festively attired holiday characters. Champagne and hors d’oeuvres precede an extravagant five-course, prix-fixe dinner prepared for the occasion. Tickets, priced at $135 per person, benefit Caterina’s Club, a non-profit charity that feeds “motel kids.” Serato also raises funds for “motel kids” through his Temptation Calendar, featuring members of the U.S. Volleyball team and Stanley Cup winner Joe DiPenta of the Anaheim Ducks. Calendars, $14.95, can be ordered by calling the restaurant, or online at anaheimwhitehouse.com.

Through November, Ruby’s Diner will feature a pumpkin pie milkshake. The shake, priced at $4.99, is served in a tall glass and topped with corn candy.

Keeping a waistline during the holidays can be challenging, but Popchips, a new, healthy snack, has hit the market to make it easier. The all-natural line of popped chips has less than half the fat of fried chips, and can be found at Gelson’s, Bristol Farms, Ralphs, and Albertsons.
