The older I get, the more aware I am of my skin’s general well-being. Is it too dry? Too oily? Too red? Is that a sun spot? Was that freckle there before? You get the picture.

As a result, what I put on my skin has come under an equal amount of scrutiny. So when I came across the Redondo Beach-based sunscreen company Suntegrity Skincare, founded by Patricia Trimble, who was inspired to develop a non-toxic sunscreen after losing her mom to melanoma skin cancer, I had high hopes. Suntegrity’s line is free of parabens, phthalates, propylene glycol, mineral oils, synthetic dyes, sulfates, PABA, and chemical UV absorbers; and is zinc oxide-based with broad spectrum SPF 30.

I was particularly pleased with the 5 in 1 Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen, promising to treat, hydrate, protect, prime, and cover. Available in light, golden light and medium shades, this BB cream uses organic aloe vera, jojoba, sunflower, pomegranate, cucumber, and green tea to boost the skin while protecting from the sun. One of my favorite things about this cream is that no matter how much of it I used, I was always able to blend it right into my skin without any white or cakey after-effects, which is an issue I have with a lot of BB creams and most sunscreens. It didn’t look like I was wearing makeup, but it did help give my skin a nice glow without any greasiness, and my skin felt hydrated. Most importantly, it protected my skin under some very high-sun conditions.

The line is available at suntegrityskincare.com, as well as at several Orange County locations, including ROOTS The Beauty Underground in Laguna Beach.
