Heroic Art

SuperHeroes: A Group Exhibition swoops into Laguna Beach's JoAnne Artman Gallery in April.

Chrystal Romero, Super, Man, acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12"

Who wouldn’t want to be a hero, a superhero or super heroine? At the JoAnne Artman Gallery in Laguna Beach, artists look at prototypical superheroes such as Superman of the 1930s comic book fame and bring the saga of the American superhero into the 21st century.

David Limrite creates a traditional Batman, only now his Zap! Bam! and Pow! is of mixed media and seven panels, with an amazing 14-foot wingspan.

Daggi Wallace creates a breathtaking Eartha Kitt Catwoman with colored pastels.

There are also heroes from everyday life. Bradford Salamon beautifully portrays a woman expecting a baby. Bardene Allen shows a father going off to war; and Bill Agee creates a president leading a nation as the ultimate in heroism. With humor and pathos, fine artists update today’s superhero to include a mixture of fantasy and reality.
