Most women (and even men) like their eyebrows well groomed. And while there are several common methods to achieving eyebrow perfection, the ancient Middle Eastern technique known as threading is gaining a foothold in the market.

Practiced in Indian and Persian cultures and perfected for the eyebrows of Bollywood movie stars, threading is now gaining popularity in the West. With an increasing demand for this service in the United States, threading salons are popping up in just about every big city, including in Orange County.

Vinita’s Beauty and Threading Studio in Tustin is one of these thriving salons. Salon chain owner Vinita Vineet assures that threading is “the best way to remove facial hair.” With over 30 years of experience in eyebrow threading, which she learned in India, she has witnessed the benefits of eyebrow threading firsthand. With nine locations across Los Angeles and Orange Counties, Vinita’s threading has proven itself a success since its establishment in 2002.

“Threading removes dead skin cells from the surface, leaving skin feeling like you just had a facial,” Vineet says.

So what’s the secret? Estheticians use a thin, twisted cotton thread that is rolled over untidy hairlines, mustaches, brows, and chin areas, plucking the hair at the follicle level. Unlike tweezing, where single hairs are pulled out one at a time, threading removes entire rows of hair, creating a straighter, more precise line. Because a large area of hair is removed at once, it can be slightly painful, though quick and effective – the average eyebrow procedure takes between five to 10 minutes.

One of the key benefits of eyebrow threading is the duration of the results. For most clients, eyebrow hair doesn’t grow out for about three weeks after the service. There are no side effects to worry about and no chemicals involved. Plus, the average price range per service is $7 to $10 and most threading salons even offer a free temple massage.
