It might even let you personalize baked goods for your dogs. Such a place might seem like a fantasy, but as soon as you walk into Top Dog Barkery in Newport Beach, you’ll find the “world of pure imagination” Wonka spoke of.
After Three Dog Bakery in Newport Beach shut down, Top Dog Owner Karen Mahmalji decided to open her own pet bakery in the same location in Corona Del Mar Plaza. Offering a variety of tasty baked goods — which are made fresh every day — as well as a top-of-the-line selection of pet accessories, Top Dog is definitely not living in the shadow of the location’s former bakery.
Now, on to the good stuff: the treats. Top Dog has a wide variety of freshly baked foods for your pets. From charming holiday-themed cookies to thick slabs of cake with loads of icing, it’s hard to believe that these delectable treats are for your pooch! On top of the sugary delicacies that can be found around the store, Top Dog carries a variety of brands for persnickety pets. For the discriminating dog owner, Top Dog carries such brands as Taste of the Wild, Sojos treats, Bowser dog beds, Tuffy Toys, and Dogla dog collars, among other top brands.
If you’re not so much of a dog person, fear not! Though Top Dog is known as “the dog lover’s boutique and bakery,” it also has a selection of treats and accessories with which you can pamper your cat. Brand names include Whole Life and Yeowww.
Tail wagging yet? Consider this: Top Dog is hosting its very own Premier Opening Party on February 23 and 24 from noon to 3 p.m. each day and you and your four-legged friend are invited. This event boasts many fun activities for you and your dog. You can get the red carpet experience by getting a photo taken on the red carpet with your pup.
After you’re briefly detained by these “puparazzi,” feel free to enjoy the delicious array of appetizers for both you and your furry friend. If you’re feeling a bit competitive, be sure to partake in the “doggie door” prizes and the “Best Dressed” Top Dog Contest at 1 p.m. each day. Dress your pup up in formal wear for this event and you can enter him or her into a contest to win a free grooming certificate.
Be sure to RSVP on the Top Dog Barkery website. In doing so, your pooch will be added to the VIP list. Members of this list will receive a free SWAG bag of dog treats, plus an entry into the doggie door prizes.
Even if you cannot attend Top Dog’s opening extravaganza, be sure to stop by the store. Top Dog is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
