Addiction NV Cosmetics
With the goal of creating a line of makeup that could accomplish a makeover in five minutes using three to four products, makeup artist/founder Noel Sweeny created Irvine-based Addiction NV Cosmetics in 2006. Along with efficiency, she had equally important goals of versatility and healthiness set out for the line. “Our concealers are one color fits all,” says Sweeny. “Lip glosses are also lip conditioners and our new product, Bright Young Thing, is a double-stack component that has a moisturizing concealer on top with a souffle mousse underneath that is used for eyes, cheeks and lips.”
With enticing names like Baby’s Butt (primer) and Hurts So Good (lip plumper), the line of mineral-based and hypoallergenic foundations, powders and concealers, along with vitamin-infused glosses, long-lasting liners and eye-popping shadows, are sure to stick. The line recently underwent a two-year makeover of its own in its packaging and formulas. “It now is much more distinctive and people love it just because it’s so classy and cute,” Sweeny says of the packaging. :: addictionnv.com
Newport Beach’s Athenian Skin Care takes beautification to another level – literally – with its Remodeling Face Treatment, which uses microcurrent technology to stimulate the face muscles for a rejuvenating facial. According to spa owner Alexis Agoritsas, the treatment is beneficial for everyone, but in particular, it can help those clients receiving regular doses of Botox and other such wrinkle-fighting treatments. After years of receiving these kinds of injections, which temporarily immobilize targeted face muscles, those muscles could atrophy in the long term, says Agoritsas – which is where the microcurrent facial comes in. “The microcurrent electricity plumps the muscle and brings it up to its original place,” Agoritsas says. “With the years, the muscles become flat and heavy. This is an excellent form of facial exercising.”
The Remodeling Face Machine – by Paris-based Biologique Recherche – releases currents on the surface of the skin with the help of two sponges and special serums. “The [Biologique Recherche] serums are customized for each skin’s needs or conditions,” Agoritsas says.
According to Biologique Recherche, the Remodeling Face Machine uses three types of current that can be used separately or in combination for even more personalized treatment.
Clients may feel the minor tingling of electricity, but no pain, Agoritsas says. The treatment can be received indefinitely on a bimonthly or monthly basis following an initial series of treatments. The treatments can replace all other facials, according to Agoritsas.

AminoGenesis founder Ron Cummings created his anti-aging skin care line after testing a prototype of the original formula on his skin, which had been severely damaged from adult chicken pox and the sun. When his skin damage was miraculously reversed, AminoGenesis was born in order to further develop anti-aging products based on the amino acid technology used in that formula. Twelve years later, the Newport Beach-based company has developed a product so on top of the evolutionary food chain in science and results that it makes that original formula look a little like child’s play, according to AminoGenesis Marketing Director Victoria Kinney.
In a six-week consumer perception survey Kinney conducted of Paranormal-EFX, results from the 30-person focus group included: improvement in skin tone noticed by 90% of the group; 70% noticed fewer wrinkles; 90% saw more radiant skin; 95% saw smoother fine lines; 95% saw a reduction in skin discoloration; and 90% saw smoother and softer skin. “I had participants telling me their own family thought they had ‘work done’ and didn’t believe them when they said their results were just from a topical, mega-strength, anti-aging product,” says Kinney.
In addition to the amino acid technology the company is founded on – supersized – Paranormal-EFX stands apart with a new anti-aging compound called Regenaplex, according to Cummings. “This new, powerful compound helps regenerate the skin, increase hydration, protect from multiple types of free radical damage, and beautify the skin in ways not experienced with other products,” he says. “Paranormal is self-adjusting and designed to work directly with each person’s unique chemistry… If their skin is dry, it will rehydrate their skin, or conversely, if their skin is oily, it will normalize the oily skin.” :: aminogenesis.com
