Center for Computer Games and Virtual Worlds

Since its beginning in 2001, the UCI Game Culture and Technology Lab has brought emphasis to the Orange County gaming community. With over 35 UCI faculty members from all different disciplines, the gaming center aims to expand campus-wide research activities that involve the technological aspects of games and virtual worlds.

Aside from the undeniable wow factor that a prestigious college touts itself on gaming, the gaming lab also offers a distinguished speaker series that is open to the public. The series takes place on various Wednesdays throughout the spring and features designers and founders from companies like Blizzard Entertainment, GameSpy Industries and Dopplegames. The speakers will talk about anything regarding the gaming business to breaking down the design of multiplayer games.

In addition to the speaker series, UCI has a video game design club and a video game design major. Although the major has an element of exclusivity, UCI does not shy away from the gaming world and the diverse fun it has to offer. The club recently wrapped up Game Jam, where club members were broken up into groups to create a video game in only one week. At the end of the week it is judged by members of the game industry and UCI faculty.

So in the name of fun, game on.
